    Notable Experience

Most recently, Melina secured a defense verdict for her nonprofit corporate client in a case involving severe injuries of the minor plaintiff. Melina, the nonprofit corporate client, and the insurer agreed that the plaintiff's numerous settlement demands were unreasonable in light of the costs and probabilities of success at trial. After a four day jury trial, the strategy proved successful.

Similarly, Melina secured a defense verdict in a case involving liability for a car accident. The plaintiff, a prominent business man, was seeking over one hundred thousand dollars in damages for internal injuries which resulted in the surgical removal of his spleen. After a week-long trial, the jury returned a verdict in favor of Melina's client and found that the plaintiff alone was at fault for the accident.

In addition to her trial court work, Melina has successfully represented clients in appeals to the Rhode Island Supreme Court in cases involving violations of professional ethics, legal and professional malpractice.

Melina also has extensive experience handling claims for adverse possession, both on the plaintiff and defendant sides, having litigated these cases through trial and/or pretrial resolution.

Prior to attending law school, Melina worked as a substitute teacher in a number of Rhode Island public schools, most notably as a long term substitute teaching Italian in a local Rhode Island high school.
